J.D. Salinger, a giant of American literature, has died at age 91. His novel The Catcher in the Rye, seen as a defining look at American adolescence, has been tucked into backpacks and lovingly thumbed since its release in 1951. NPR’s Neal Conan leads a discussion about his life and work.
