New Brunswick is a birder’s paradise. Uniquely located along the migratory flights paths from Greenland and the Canadian north to the southern United States and South America, New Brunswick boasts birding habitats that attract a wide variety of birds. From waterfowl and gulls to loons and grebes to raptors and owls to doves and swifts to hummingbirds and woodpeckers to a plethora of songbirds, the province hosts many species both year-round and seasonally.

This guide is every birder’s dream. Divided into geographic chapters, the book covers every major birding hotspot in each county. Burrows visits cities, towns, villages, parks, and recreational areas, advising the reader which birds may be sighted during the major birding seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. Each section also includes access routes and a birding focus, and further information on trails, contacts, and websites. Richly illustrated with colour and black and white photographs by Merv J. Cormier, this book is the first of its kind for New Brunswick.

THE AUTHOR

Since emigrating from England in 1970, Roger Burrows has travelled extensively in North America and birded in all 10 provinces and the Yukon Territory as well as every American state and Caribbean country. He worked for Parks Canada in the Atlantic provinces as a naturalist, interpretive planner, and avifaunal consultant and provided Breeding Bird Surveys, Maritimes Shorebird Surveys, and Christmas Bird Counts from 1975 on.

For the last four years, Roger has been living in New Brunswick and providing Maritimes Breeding Bird Atlas and Maritime Shorebird Surveys information for Grand Manan, where he is now living. He has had nine books published since arriving in Canada, including five field guides. He now conducts workshops for birding Elderhostels on Grand Manan and occupies his time spent indoors by painting acrylic owls on beach rocks and pebbles.

News Editors: Roger Burrows is available for interviews prior to and during the tour.
