Books to Build/ Lire Pour Bâtir (BTB/LPB) is a New Brunswick-based, non-profit organization that is dedicated to enhancing mutually beneficial and sustainable education in Haitian and Canadian schools and communities.

The long term goals of B.T.B/L.P.B. include the following:

  • To send enough new and used books to create a library for a school in Haiti where students have limited access to books.
  • To sustain the library with current publications.
  • To incorporate the participation of Haitian and Canadian volunteers, so that both communities learn in a way that is reciprocal and mutually beneficial.

The short term goals of B.T.B./L.P.B. include the following:

  • To find an agency that is willing to transport donated books to Haiti
  • To find a location to store donated books until their shipment date
  • To involve New Brunswick schools in the process of gathering books, and raising awareness about Haiti.
  • To conduct a night-of-music fundraiser so as to purchase books from categories that are missing from the donated books, to purchase current publications, and to assist with any costs associated with transportation and storage of books.

B.T.B./ L.P.B. is run by a team of volunteers who will be introduced in a following article. If you would like to become a B.T.B./L.P.B volunteer, please contact Meaghan Balzer: meaghanbalzer@gmail.com .
