Canada Writes Short Story Prize: Deadline Looms

“Whatever Else.” In recognition of the centenary of his birth, the University of Ottawa’s English Department invites paper proposals on any aspect of the work and life of Irving Layton.
Paul D. Miller a.k.a. DJ Spooky and Svitlana Matviyenko, editors of The Imaginary App, an anthology of art and scholarship on app-computing, invite artists and designers to submit entries for a traveling art exhibition and publication of selected works in our anthology. Our exhibition will feature original icons of nonexistent apps.
As of 2012, the book award is valued at five thousand dollars and the magazine award is valued at two thousand dollars. Both awards are made available to freelance writers of non-fiction for social justice writing that is exceptionally well written and researched. The Book and Magazine awards provide financial support while the writer completes a book or magazine project for publication.
As part of our perpetual search for new readers and writers, Geist offers complimentary copies of the digital magazine to instructors and students who choose to participate in the Geist in the Classroom (GiC) program. The Emerging Writer of the Month project showcases the good writing that is being produced in Canadian classrooms.

Our goal is to showcase great menus from around the world. They can be old, they can be new. They surely have to be great. In each showcased menu the ideal structure to the post is to show one or more photos of the menu as it exists in real life along with “flat”, digital versions so that we can all take in the typography and layout details.

The First Annual Numéro Cinq Rondeau Writing Contest opens for entries November 1. The rondeau is a slightly intricate little form (see preamble and definitions below). You should not attempt to write one under the influence of intoxicants or while using a cell phone (unless you are writing it on your cell phone).
